Andreas Gursky

For the first time, the MdbK is showing an institutional solo exhibition of the internationally renowned photo artist Andreas Gursky in his native city of Leipzig.Andreas Gursky’s oeuvre, encompassing well over 200 works, visualises complex constructions of reality, all of which are linked to social issues. Gursky has selected the works as a highly-personal retrospective. The MdbK will display both older, iconic works that have imprinted themselves on the visual memory, and new works that have yet to be exhibited in a museum.

Evelyn Richter, Ursula Arnold, F. O. Bernstein, Thomas Steinert, Willy Gursky, Karin Wieckhorst: 1950–1980. Fotografie aus Leipzig

„1950-1980. Photography from Leipzig“ uses historical prints and photographically illustrated magazines to convey a vivid picture of the hitherto little-noticed early days of photography in the GDR. The exhibition offers a pictorial history of Leipzig and a history of photography on its way to artistic independence – told using the example of selected photographs by Ursula Arnold, F.O. Bernstein, Willy Gursky, Evelyn Richter, Thomas Steinert and Karin Wieckhorst.
